Cheap Belly Dance Costume Solutions

Belly dance is the Next Big Thing in women’s exercise, and no wonder, because it’s so simple to understand the essentials.

In fact, it’s so simple to learn belly dancing, that numerous women who started learning “for fun” suddenly find themselves joining a dance troupe and performing in public.

At that point, what commenced as an inexpensive hobby can quickly set you back a fortune, if you’re not careful. Should you live in America, Europe or Australasia, professional belly dance costumes in your local shops/stores are most likely priced in the 100’s of dollars.

One solution is to make it yourself. If you’re not good at sewing, that may sound daunting!

But you’d be surprised the number of ordinary garments that may be turned into bellydance costumes. Midriff tops may be given some bling by edging them with sequins (it is possible to buy sequin trim ready-made in long strips three to four sequins wide). Even an ordinary cotton top, dyed black, can look impressive with some beading! One other good trick is to cover an existing bra with stretchy velvet or glittery lycra fabric – it only has to be tacked on! It is possible to cover the bra straps with similar material, or use the sequin trim.

If you would like a modern “mermaid” skirt, that is hard to fake. A good option is stretch velvet, which doesn’t need hemming or darts, and is forgiving in case you make a mistake while sewing!

If all that beading and sewing sounds too much like hard work, it’s possible to get a bedleh (bra and belt set) for quite reasonable prices online these days. Then you can definitely develop a whole array of different costumes with the addition of different colored skirts, pants, gauntlets, shrugs and boleros.

“Faking” costumes can be fun, so give it a try!
