Riding Lessons And Trail Rides For Eric

June 22nd, 2010
Comments Off

Her blond hair was mussed by the wind as she waited in the windy riding ring. She looked down at the thick dust on her brown boots. She wanted a pair of expensive cowboy boots she planned to buy. She smiled as she thought about how she had saved for them.

Walking over to the gate, she smiled at Eric and brought him into the ring for his riding lesson. He eagerly went over to the horse with her. She put the reins over the bays’ head and took the little boy to the left side of the horse. She went over the basics as she helped him up into the saddle. He settled comfortably as he listened to her instructions.

His mother waved from the other side of the fence. The blond riding instructor smiled at her. Now turning her attention to Eric, she started the lesson. She explained what neck reining is and how to lean your weight in the direction you turn the horse in. He was doing very well.

His mom recalled the first day she had brought Eric to the riding academy for lessons. They chatted amicably as Eric watched the horses. She mentioned she also had an interest in horses. She thought bouncing around on the back of the horse was how to lose tummy fat. The instructor said the mom didn’t look overweight at all.

As she signed for the charge card payment, they talked about riding on the trails after Eric was accustomed to riding in the ring. They could, the three of them, take a fun ride along the bridle paths. You could take a one or two hour ride.

They chatted about the rest area in the middle of the trail ride. Everyone would get off their horse and sit down in the grass for a few minutes. She usually cantered the horses into the rest stop. Eric could not run away since livery horses automatically stopped when they entered the rest area.

They would dismount and sit on the grass for a few minutes while letting the horses graze. Everyone pulled the reins over the horses’ heads and kept holding on until it was time to mount up again. It was a pleasant time with everyone chatting about what fun they were having.

After Eric’s lessons were completed he was able to start, stop and turn the horse. He could mount up on his own. He understood how neck reining worked and how to move his weight in the saddle when he turned the horse. He was confident of his riding abilities and confident about trail riding. Next week they were going out on a trail ride. Eric’s mom jokingly said she would find out if horseback riding was how to reduce tummy fat.

Searching for the Best Massage Therapist in Indianapolis?

June 15th, 2010
Comments Off

As the weather gets colder, your schedule gets busier and your muscles get tighter, you might find yourself looking for an Indianapolis massage therapist.  So, which therapist should you turn to when you need a well deserved massage.  How do you find the best?

What Do You Want?
First, you’ll need to decide what type of massage service you are interested in. There are many massage therapists in Indianapolis and each has their own skill set.  Do you want a traditional Swedish Massage or an intensive “Pfrimmer”?  Are you pregnant and seeking a Prenatal Massage?

When you call your prospective therapists, be sure to ask and confirm that the massage therapist you choose has at least a year or two of experience in the massage therapy you are interested in.

Drive Time
Next, decide how far you are willing to drive for “the best”.  If possible, don’t limit your search to your zip code or your side of town.  Interview massage therapists in a 10-15 mile radius to increase your chances of finding the best one.

Is price your main concern?  If so, then it is even more important to expand the scope of your search.  Check surrounding towns and cities that are within a distance you’d be willing to drive.  Often times, massage therapists in towns surrounding big cities have better rates and offer specials for regular massage clients willing to drive a few minutes extra.

Your Pampering Quotient

Now, your preference for how pampered you want your massage experience to be will now determine if you call Day Spas or dedicated massage therapy studios.  Just so you know, typically a day spa has less experienced therapists because they pay by the hour and few experienced massage therapist are willing to accept hourly pay.  However, that does not mean you won’t find an excellent therapist in a Day Spa.  In fact, some of the higher-end Day Spas offer the best of both worlds, top notch therapists in a beautifully pampered setting.  But, of course, all this comes at a price.

If you want an experienced professional at a reasonable rate, your best bet is to call a massage studio or an individual massage therapist.  Most massage studios in and around Indianapolis are listed in the yellow pages or pop up when you do a Google search for “Indianapolis massage therapy”.

Finding an top-notch individual therapist can be a bit more difficult, especially if they work remotely or by appointment only.  Often times, this is where the “best of the best” reside –but they usually have a large client base and are booked for weeks.  These therapists have paid their dues and don’t need to spend much on marketing to stay busy.

Credentials to Look For
Massage therapy is soon to be sanctioned in Indiana so anyone offering massage services will have to be officially licensed, but this is not the case yet.  So, look for massage therapist with the following credentials.

Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) – means they have received formal training from an accredited school, not just a weekend crash course

ABMP or  AMTA Registration – these are professional trade organization that serious therapist pay to belong to

Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapist (PDMT)  – a specific type of “advanced” massage therapy requiring specialized training and certification

Make Your Calls
So now that you have the preliminaries out of the way, it is time to call a few massage therapists.  Your objective is to not only get your questions answered, like “what do you specialize in?” and “do you have any specials?” but also determine if the therapist meets your personality preferences.

Every massage therapist has a different approach.  Therapeutic massage can be a very personal & powerful experience, both positive and, unfortunately, negative.  It is my belief that a truly skilled massage therapist can bring your body’s energy back into balance and leave you feeling centered and much stronger than you were before you arrived. An unskilled therapist does the opposite.  Often times, a massage therapist’s level of positive (or negative) energy is apparent on the initial call with a new client, you just have to be looking for it.

Although the steps above may take you an extra 30 minutes or so, they will help you avoid wasting time & money on a bad massage.  So, take the time and be sure to find the very best massage therapist Indianapolis has to offer.

When Shopping, Go For Price And Quality

June 3rd, 2010
Comments Off

Nowadays, keep in mind that when shopping, go for price and quality even though the two terms might seem mutually exclusive of each other. Fortunately, this isn’t always the case though many people will fixate on price in almost every instance when it’s the sad case that very cheap things often might not be worth the box they’re packaged in. In fact, many might not survive the packaging into the box in the first place.

As an example, consider how easy it is to become sucked in by more than a few of those infomercials touting something like a food processor for under $20. Now, it’s a fact that a Black Decker food processor will probably be a little bit more than that but what are the chances that it’s going to break down within a few uses? Most people would say that there’s almost no chance of that particular item needing replacement in a short amount of time.

Today, we have the Internet and it is an extremely powerful tool in our toolkit for finding almost anything of high-quality and good price. Spend a few minutes online and you’ll quickly realize that there’s a myriad of products out there such as a Delonghi oven, for example, that can be had for a good price that offers high quality as well. Certainly, cheaper substitutes are available but probably not as good, quality-wise.

Not only is finding good quality at good prices important for items in the kitchen, but it’s also just as important to find just about any other item in and around the house, including — for example — a Hoover wet dry vacuum. It’s no great stretch to imagine having a very high-quality piece of gear like that vacuum in the home and at a price that can often be competitive with some discount vacuum found through an infomercial.

There are advocates out there who say that saving money on anything should be the most important factor, but saving money on something like a food processor — while viscerally satisfying initially — might not be as smart in the long run, after several cheap food processors have been bought to replace the one that broke. It makes more sense, then, to begin looking at quality as well, especially when it saves over the long term.

Additionally, most people also don’t get how really easy the Internet has made shopping for anything, including a luxury yacht or a tray of finely aged Swiss cheese, if one so desires those kinds of items. The people who do understand this are out there buying those ovens or using those wet dry vacuums and also lining their pockets with a little extra change they got because they shopped the Internet rather than an infomercial.

So then; what’s it going to be? Shop to find cheap things of little long-term worth or shop to find plenty of good quality things that may actually be similar in price to those shoddy things? All it takes is a little Internet savvy and the time and discipline necessary to hunt out the best deals on a super variety of quality merchandise, all of which can now be found out in cyber land?
